First medal for the Serbian Armed Forces at Army Games in Russia

The team of the Serbian Armed Forces won the third place in the international competition of pontoon units Open Water, which was held during the weekend on the Oka River in the Russian city of Murom, within the International Army Games.

Our pontoneers tested strength with members of the armed forces of Russia and China and successfully performed their tasks on an extremely tough course. The Russian team has achieved the best time, while the Chinese team was the runner-up finisher.

Two crews of the Serbian Armed Forces were awarded. The crew with corporals Aleksandar Rancev and Darko Naumov was declared the best crew on the tugboat while the crew of the Serbian Armed Forces with Sergeant Sinisa Jovanovic and corporals Milan Markovic and Bojan Sujica was the best crew on an amphibious transporter.

The contestants had a difficult task to reconnoitre the banks as soon as possible and perform demining, making the passage for motor vehicles, transport the wounded and motor vehicles to the other side of the banks. All these activities should be precisely planned, practiced and coordinated with all the commanders. For our members, the challenge was even greater because they worked on equipment which they have not had a chance to meet before.

The Russian team started violently from the very beginning, while our and the Chinese team were abreast of each other until the half of the competition. Our guys were extremely motivated and did their best to decently represent the Serbian Armed Forces.

Success was achieved also by the team of the Serbian Armed Forces that participates in the tank biathlon as they qualified for the semi-finals. It was decided by drawing lots that our tank crews compete in blue colour tanks on the third day of semi-finals, on 11th August, in a group with teams of Azerbaijan, Russia and India.

At the third training area, in the context of Clean Sky competition, the team from the Serbian Armed Forces competed in the sprint race ZU Kamaz. Although our armed forces do not possess the abovementioned armaments, members of the Serbian Armed Forces were equal participants in the competition. These days they are to face even more demanding disciplines according to the schedule.

International Army Games which this year involved more than 3,000 soldiers, including 129 members of the Serbian Armed Forces, were opened on 30th July and will last until 13th August.
