Sailing in memory of Zoki



Today, in Belgrade, the 18th Memorial Yacht Regatta “Zoran Radosavljevic” has been completed in the memory of pilot and yachtsman Major Zoran Radosavljevic, member of the 127th fighter squadron “Knights” of the Yugoslav Army, who died defending his fatherland on 27th March 1999.

On two racing fields, on the Danube and Sava, 48 yacht crews competed in “micro” division – 5,5 meters long, “cruiser” – over 5,5 meters long and "optimist", for boys and girls up to 14 years of age.

At the "cruiser" division, after summing up the results from the first and second day of competition, the 1st place was won by the crew of the "La Nevere" sailing vessel with skipper Marjan Florsic, and the runner-up is "Imagine" vessel, led by skipper Dragan Stojsavljevic. At “micro” division, the best results were achieved by “PS Tech” with skipper Dejan Antic, and the crew that finished in the second place was the one led by skipper Jovan Crnogorac. Among the youngest competitors, Dusan Trbojevic from Zemun Yachting Club scored the best results.

- Weather conditions this year have not been to the benefit of the sailors, but high water and low wind did not impede the crews to compete and thus keep the memory of our Zoran, Snezana Radosavljevic Mazibrada from "Zoran Radosavljevic" Association pointed out.

Members of the Riverine Flotilla secured the regatta field, cadets of the Military Academy assisted in the organization of the regatta and competed among the yacht crews within which they won the first place in "micro" division and the third in "cruiser" division. Members of the Air Force performed flypasts in "Gazelle" helicopters and symbolically marked the beginning of the regatta in memory of their colleague pilot Major Zoran Radosavljevic .At the winner proclamation and the closing ceremony of this year's regatta, the delegation of the AF&AD was led by Colonel Dragan Lazarevic, Chief of Human Resources Department at AF&AD Command, while Lieutenant Colonel Miroslav Zecevic, Commander of the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, received a special Letter of Gratitude from the organizers of the regatta on behalf of the squadron.

Organizers of the regatta were the “Zoran Radosavljevic” Association, Zemun Yacht Club and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Significant help had been provided by the Serbian Ministry of Interior – the Riverine Police, Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Port Captaincy, the First Steamboat Association and other companies.

The Memorial Yacht Regatta “Zoran Radosavljevic” was first held in 1999 in Montenegro, and since May 2007 it has been organized in Belgrade.
