Minister of Defence with the US Ambassador
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott discussed the key aspects of bilateral military cooperation and the overall development of relations between the two countries.
Both sides emphasized the importance of the recent US-Serbia Bilateral Defence Consultations held at the high level of delegations of the two countries. In addition to the already developed cooperation with the Ohio National Guard through the State Partnership Programme, projects such as the completion of equipping of the South Base Peacekeeping Operations and Pre-Deployment Training Centre and the development of engineering capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces to participate in the peacekeeping operations, it was pointed out that there is a common interest to define and agree on the new areas of cooperation.
One of the topics of discussion was dedicated to the cooperation in the area of improving the modalities of public procurement for the needs of the defence system. Minister Djordjevic said that "although the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have very serious approach to the implementation of this process, it is our wish to constantly improve our capacities in this area".
The Defence Minister pointed out the active contribution of the Republic of Serbia to global security through participation in the peacekeeping operations led by the United Nations and the European Union. He conveyed the satisfaction of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to the American ambassador in connection with the programmes of cooperation taking place between the two countries, which are aimed at further improving of the operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.
