Contract on the handover of Kosta Nadj barracks in Subotica signed

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic attended today at City House in Subotica the signing of the contract on the handover of the barracks in Subotica "Kosta Nadj". The contract was signed by Mayor of Subotica Jene Maglai and Director of the Directorate for Property of the Republic of Serbia Jovan Vorkapic. By the contract , the barracks are handed over to the City, based on the Conclusion of the Government of Serbia on 10 July 2015.

- Congratulating the City of Subotica obtaining this valuable military real estate, I am sending a message to other local authorities to immediately move into an contract on taking over military facilities. On the one hand, these means are important for the Serbian Armed Forces for the modernization of military equipment, solving housing issues of its members and reducing costs, and, on the other hand, they allow local authorities to use the facilities and land for their own needs and possibly offer them to other investors - Minister Gasic said and added that nothing more of military property can be taken without the Armed Forces getting an adequate compensation, as had happened by 2012.

To illustrate this fact, Minister cited the example of Smederevska Palanka, in which an alienated military facility had not been paid, which has since been resold. He added that out of the 450 objects that had been included in the Master Plan since 2006, only 40 of them had found their owners by 2012, and some had not even been paid. He explained that some facilities had been overpriced in the past and that they were being re-evaluated in order to determine a more realistic value.

Mayor of Subotica Jene Maglai thanked Minister Gasic and Director of the Directorate for the Serbian Military Property for their help and good cooperation when it comes to selling military property. He noted that the sales process had been initiated many times in the past, but unfortunately had never been completed. Talking about the future purpose of the barracks, Maglai said that a part would be used for the accommodation of public functions or for the purposes of local government, but also that there are demands from cultural and social institutions of the city such as the Historical Archive and the Red Cross. Mayor said that one part of the barracks could be commercialized, which would allow for the economic development of the city.

After signing the contract, the Director of the Directorate for military property Jovan Vorkapic said that the location of the barracks in Subotica was one of the best locations in the city and announced that in twenty days, the contract governing the right of ownership in the case of the Military Club in Subotica would be signed.

The contract signed today is the third contract in which the local government acquires property in the territory of the city. The signing of the contract, in addition to Minister Gasic, was attended by Advisor to the Prime Minister Gojko Radic and Chief of Operations of the General Staff Major General Vojin C Jondic.

Barracks "Kosta Nadj" is located on an area of 8.9 acres and has 36 buildings with the total area of 17,573 square meters. This military building was declared without perspective for the military use and included in the Master Plan in 2006. The tax administration has estimated the asset in the amount of 3,025,742.39 euros.

Within 30 days of signing the contract, the log handover of the complex will be conducted, which officially make the City of Subotica the new owner.
