Meeting of the Ministers of Defence of Serbia and Slovenia

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic met today with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia Roman Jakic.

Minister Gasic thanked for the assistance that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia was among the first to send to our country to overcome the effects of catastrophic floods, noting that such distress "imposes the need for solidarity and cooperation, which was truly demonstrated by the countries of the region."

In the disaster that befell Serbia, assistance was provided by 45 members of the Slovenian Civil Protection, with 14 vehicles, four boats, six pumps and two generators, and minister Gasic said that we owe special thanks for sending a special military helicopter, which had helped in the rescue of human lives, as well as to the Slovenian team that participated in the protection of electric power capacities of the Republic of Serbia - Nikola Tesla and Kolubara thermal power plants."

Minister Jakic stressed that Slovenia remains ready to assist with all of the available capacities, and "the international line group intended to gather support for Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina has been established."

The two ministers have agreed that the bilateral military relations between Serbia and Slovenia are characterized by the intensification of cooperation. Since 2010, the relations in the field of defence have seen a noticeable upward trend, despite the economic crisis, which imposes an obligation of more rational planning of activities.

Main fields of cooperation are based on the exchange of experiences in the process of formation of the NCO corps, cooperation between the military educational institutions and archives, as well as in the area of budgeting and financing.
