2024 Safest Military Driver Awards presented
A meeting of the Council for the Safety of Military Traffic Participants was held today at the Guard Club in Topčider, where the traditional MOD and SAF Safest Driver Awards for the year 2024 were presented.
Sergeant First Class Mile Platiša, a transport squad leader at the Banat Brigade was declared the safest driver in the NCO category. Corporal Igor Hlatki, a driver at the 204th Air Brigade was declared the safest driver in the professional soldier category and Dragutin Majstorović, a driver at the Second Army Brigade, in the civilian category.
The best drivers were presented with awards by the Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, who is also President of the Council for the Safety of Military Traffic Participants.Today’s meeting discussed traffic safety in the Republic of Serbia and its defence system, as well as the degree of achievement of goals set out in the Safety Strategy for Military Personnel Participating in Road Traffic, and the Council members were briefed about the activities that are being undertaken to draft a new law on road traffic safety.
According to Colonel Dragiša Zinaja, Head of the Traffic and Transport Section, Logistics Department (J-4), Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, the first Council meeting this year was a good opportunity for representatives of the defence system to learn more about the planned law.— We had a comprehensive meeting, where we used an analytical approach to determine which preventive measures that we had prescribed in the past were not effective enough. We managed to reach new conclusions that should ensure greater safety of military traffic participants — said Colonel Zinaja, expressing his belief that the Safest Driver Awards would act as an incentive for a safe operation of military motor vehicles.
The Council for the Safety of Military Traffic Participants is an expert body whose main responsibility is to improve the safety of military drivers. Council members are officers occupying responsible positions at the SAF Transportation Service, representatives of the MOI Traffic Safety Agency, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering of the University of Belgrade and Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad.
