River Units Branch Day and River Flotilla Day marked
A military ceremony was held today to mark the River Units Branch Day and the River Flotilla Day at Aleksandar Berić Barracks in Novi Sad.
At the ceremony, a summary of past year’s results achieved by the branch and the unit were read to the River Flotilla members standing in formation, the best ship and the best crew awards were presented, as well as awards and certificates of appreciations to the most deserving individuals.The review of results achieved in the past period emphasized River Flotilla’s successful execution of all tasks assigned to it on inland waterways and its contribution to the enhancement of operational capabilities of the Army and the Serbian Armed Forces in general.
The River Units Day and the River Flotilla Day commemorate August 19, 1915, when the first Serbian warship – armoured boat called Jadar was launched from the Čukarica slope, which was the beginning of the rich history of the Serbian River Flotilla.
