SAF members install bridge to Great War Island

Members of the River Flotilla’s pontoon units have completed the installation of a pontoon bridge connecting the Zemun Quay with the Great War Island.
Today, the bridge was handed over to Zemun’s organization for tourism and culture, providing citizens with an easy access to the popular Lido Beach on the Danube.

The pontoon bridge is 367.5 metres long and has a load-carrying capacity of 20 tons. It will be used by pedestrians and vehicles necessary for beach maintenance. During the summer swim season, members of the River Flotilla, who have set up this crossing point, will be responsible for ensuring safety and carrying out maintenance of the bridge.
The transportation of the bridge components from Šabac and their installation gave the pontoneers an opportunity to further practice actions and procedures on the river and improve skills in performing their tasks.

The heatwave that has hit our country has not stopped the members of the Serbian Armed Forces from building a bridge over the Danube. As in previous years, the pontoon bridge will be in operation until the end of the summer season, when it will be dismantled and transported back to the home garrison.
