Send-off Ceremony Serbian Armed Forces Contingent to Peacekeeping Mission

A send-off ceremony for a new contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces deploying to peacekeeping operation of the United Nations in Lebanon has been held today in the ”Knjaz Mihajlo” in Niš.

The contingent that will in next six months be a part of the Interim United Nations Forces in Lebanon, consists of an infantry unit of the First Army Brigade, staff officers, and group of specialists tasked to support our contingent.

In the area of operation, they will perform responsible tasks of preserving peace thus continuing a long tradition of the participation of our armed forces in United Nations peacekeeping operations, that was initiated 68 years ago, precisely in the Middle East.

At today’s ceremony, Head of Operations Directorate (J-3) of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Major General Tiosav Janković conferred the state flag to the infantry company Commander Major Igor Savić, and he expressed his belief that this contingent as well would conscientiously and responsibly discharge assigned tasks in the mission thus worthily represent our country and armed forces in the international environment.

The send-off was attended by Deputy Commander of the Army Major General Slađan Stamenković, Commander of the Third Army Brigade Colonel Vladan Milosavljević, representatives of Serbian Armed Forces units, and relatives and friends of the soldiers and commanders departing for the peacekeeping operation.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces started their participation in this peacekeeping operation on 21st December 2010. In this mission, apart from the infantry company that executes its tasks within a Spanish battalion, staff officers, and specialist officers, the Serbian Armed Forces also deploy a force protection platoon within an Italian Battalion.
