Meeting of Deputy Chiefs of Defence of the South-Eastern Europe



Today, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović attended the meeting of Deputy Chiefs of Defence of the regional countries held in Istanbul within the Southeastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process. 

At the meeting, the participants discussed joint activities and projects within this initiative and they adopted a joint statement expressing commitment to peace and stability in the region, and recognizing the need to continue making efforts aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and, thus, international security.

In his address, General Glišović emphasized that the Republic of Serbia was fully committed to honouring the United Nations Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, all relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, international law, the territorial integrity of sovereign states, enhancement of cooperation with key international organizations in the field of defence and security and providing active contribution within regional forums.

The Southeastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process (SEDM) was initiated in 1996, and the Republic of Serbia has been a full member of this regional initiative since 2010. The main goal of SEDM is to improve understanding and intensify political and military cooperation in the region, for the purpose of strengthening the security in this part of Europe. The member states include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Romania, the United States, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro.
