Minister Gašić visits Air Force and Air Defence Command

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited the Air Force and Air Defence Command in Zemun today.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović.

During the meeting with the leaders occupying the most responsible positions in the Air Force and Air Defence, the commander, Lieutenant General Duško Žarović, briefed Minister Gašić on the organization, unit locations and the most important tasks of this service branch.

According to Minister Gašić, the Air Force and Air Defence is a vital part of the strong defence system of our country. He is proud of the fact that AF and AD members perform the tasks of controlling and safeguarding Serbia’s sovereign airspace in a responsible and professional manner.
A continuous process of equipping the Air Force and Air Defence with modern aircraft, air defence systems and radars is a path to further strengthening this service branch of the Serbian Armed Forces.

- The acquisition of FK-3 and Pantsir air defence missile systems, Mi-35 and H-145 helicopters, GM400 long-range radars, and remotely piloted aircraft, has considerably strengthened the combat readiness of the Air Force and Air Defence. The state leadership and the Ministry of Defence will continue to provide support for the Air Force and Air Defence’s efforts to equip itself with modern means, so as to be able to respond to all challenges regarding the control and protection of our airspace. Our country is developing, it is getting economically stronger and we can allocate more money for our defence. It is very important that our Air Force should be reinforced with new aircraft, because only a strong Air Force and a strong military can be the guarantors of peace and security for all of us - said Minister Gašić.

One of the priorities in the coming period will be to take care of people and further efforts will be made to improve the material status of members of the Serbian Armed Forces, Minister Gašić said.

After today's meeting at the Air Force and Air Defence Command, Minister Gašić was shown protective equipment worn by pilots and aircraft maintenance technicians.
