Minister Vučević and General Mojsilović attend celebration of Republika Srpska Day in Banja Luka
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, attended a ceremony to mark Republika Srpska Day in the Borik Sports Hall in Banja Luka today.
The ceremony was attended by the Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović, President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Orlić, Serbian government ministers, a delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, representatives of Serbian and Republika Srpska institutions, public figures and numerous citizens.
The President of the National Assembly of Serbia Orlić conveyed the greetings from the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and the state leadership and congratulated those present on Republika Srpska Day on behalf of the citizens of Serbia.
- We celebrate this holiday together, showing respect and gratitude to the great people who decided on January 9, 1992 to protect the rights of the people living here, to preserve their peace and freedom, their right to life and existence, their right to have a future. That's what they did. We safeguard the same rights and the same values today. They are not taken for granted, they are not given, and we know better than anyone else that peace must be protected as a treasure and that there is nothing more important than freedom - said Orlić. We should protect the Serbian people no matter where they live, added Orlić, stressing that Serbia will always stand with Republika Srpska.
Patriarch Profirije wished everyone a merry Christmas, saying that longing for the peace of God, which every person longs for, means that we are genuinely committed to Christ, God's truth, justice and love.
- With our entire being, we have always been committed to peace, knowing that there can be no peace if we are not at peace with God, if we are not in agreement with him, if we do not strive to live according to his commandments, regardless of our failures and weaknesses. We know that without this general commitment it is impossible to achieve harmony and peace within ourselves, but we also know that we are committed to being at peace with every person and all nations, and this cannot be achieved without being at peace with God, i.e. without our fundamental, Orthodox faith, which has shaped us throughout the centuries - said Patriarch Porfirije.
President of Republika Srpska Dodik also addressed the audience. According to him, the people of Republika Srpska celebrate January 9 as their holiday and do so with great love.
- We do so with a desire not to hurt anyone, but to be happy, because it belongs to us, to our soul, to our nature and our freedom. Freedom has never been a philosophical word for us. For Serbs in these parts, it has always been an existential word that galvanized us into a lot of action that led to the establishment of Republika Srpska. Throughout the centuries, Serbs in this area have fought for freedom - said Dodik and added that thanks to the leaderships of the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska, a clear message was sent saying "that we want peace and stability".
Minister Vučević and General Mojsilović will also attend a formal reception at the Administrative Centre of the Government of Republika Srpska, which will be held tonight as part of Republika Srpska Day celebrations.
