Send-off ceremony for SAF contingent heading off to UNIFIL
A send-off ceremony was held today at the “Ribnica” barracks in Kraljevo for a new SAF contingent heading off to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The contingent consists of an infantry company drawn from the 2nd Army Brigade, staff officers, who will be serving at the Mission HQ, and a group of specialists who will be responsible for providing support to our contingent. Over the next six months, working as part of the peacekeeping force, they will be performing responsible duties in the UN peacekeeping operation’s Sector East in this Middle Eastern country.
The ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nemanja Starović, the Head of the Operations Directorate (J-3, General Staff), Major General Tiosav Janković, the Chief of Staff of the Army Command, Brigadier General Zoran Dragićević, representatives of SAF units, religious communities and local self-government bodies, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers who are being deployed.
State Secretary Starović handed the flag of the Republic of Serbia to the infantry company commander, Captain 1st Class Miljan Đurić, and wished the SAF members much success in the execution of assigned tasks in the area of operation and a safe return to their homeland.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ contribution to UNIFIL began in 2010. In addition to the contingent working in Sector East, a force protection platoon is currently deployed with this operation in Sector West.
