Observing Military Holidays
Today, in barracks in Zrenjanin and Belgrade, military celebrations were held to mark the Day of Banat Brigade and the Day of the Centre for Peacekeeping operations of Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.
Members of Banat Brigade celebrated their day by organising a ceremonial gathering in the barracks “Narodni Heroj Svetozar Marković Toza” in Zrenjanin in memory of 17th November 1918 when victorious Serbian army entered that town then called Veliki Bečkerek.
At the celebration, rewards were awarded to the best individuals, and key achievements were singled out that are significant for building capabilities of the brigade. In addition, a static display of arms and military equipment was arranged.
In “Banjica” barracks in Belgrade, the day of the unit was marked by members of the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations in memory of 17th November 1956 when the advance party of a Detachment of Yugoslav People’s Army was sent as part of Rapid reaction forces of the United Nations in the Sinai.
The results of the work of the Centre achieved in the previous year were summed up during the ceremonial gathering organised on that occasion, and deserving individuals received recognitions. In addition, a promotional video “Participation in peacekeeping missions” was presented for the first time.
On this occasion, the spouse of Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Stanojević, who died on 29th March 2022 in United Nations peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, received the “Dag Hammarskjöld” Medal by which this honourable officer of the Serbian Armed Forces was posthumously decorated by the Organisation of the United Nations. This is a medal to pay homage to members of international forces of the United Nations fallen while performing their tasks of building and maintaining peace in the world.
