Army and Infantry Day

The Army and Infantry Day was celebrated today in the Serbian Armed Forces’ commands, units and establishments, in commemoration of November 16, 1914, when the Battle of Kolubara started.
The main event was held at the Military Club in Niš, where awards were presented to the most deserving individuals and the most significant accomplishments in building the operational and functional capabilities of this service of the Serbian Armed Forces were summed up.

Reviewing the results achieved in the past year, it was highlighted that Army members, regardless of numerous challenges, had demonstrated moral strength, professionalism and dedication in the execution of their tasks, primarily along the administrative boundary line with Kosovo and Metohija, thus making significant contribution to the preservation of peace and security of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.
To mark the occasion, wreaths and flowers were laid at memorials dedicated to the participants in the Serbian liberation and defensive wars in garrisons and garrison towns throughout Serbia, and the Niš military orchestra performed a promenade concert on the city's streets and squares.

Army members also celebrated the Patron Saint’s Day – Đurđic, and the holy liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Dositej of Lipljan and the Military, the vicar of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch.
Today, the members of the Army Training Centre also celebrated their holiday commemorating the Battle of Kolubara and one of the biggest victories of the Serbian army in history. At a ceremony to mark the occasion, held in the "General Pavle Jurišić Šturm" barracks in Požarevac, awards were given to the most deserving individuals and the unit's work results were summed up, which in the past year successfully conducted specialized training with all categories of active duty members and reserves of the Serbian Armed Forces.
