75th anniversary of Military Film Centre “Zastava Film” celebrated
A ceremony was held tonight at the Central Military Club in Belgrade to mark the 75th anniversary of the Military Film Centre “Zastava Film” of the Public Relations Department, Ministry of Defence.
To mark this important anniversary, “Zastava Film” awarded its plaque to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević for his wholehearted support and contribution to the development of military cinematography, which was received on his behalf by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić.
The “Zastava Film” plaque was also awarded to the Serbian Armed Forces and presented to the Head of the Training and Doctrine Directorate (J-7, General Staff), Brigadier General Muharem Fazlić, by the director of the Military Film Centre, Colonel Goran Ikonić. The plaques were also awarded to the military TV show “Dozvolite”, Radio Television of Serbia, Yugoslav Cinematheque and the film archive “Filmske Novosti”.
Seventy-five years of existence and activity are a matter for pride, said Director of “Zastava Film” Colonel Ikonić in his address to those present, because this production company is a guardian of the art of film and all the traditional values that are intrinsic and crowned by the spiritual and cultural heritage of our ancestors.
- For seven and a half decades, “Zastava Film” has recorded the history of our armed forces and country, witnessed many important events and promoted the Serbian Armed Forces, culture, tradition and art of our people and country. We remember with pride and gratitude our predecessors who left an indelible mark on the history of “Zastava Film”. We are also proud of all the big names in Yugoslav and Serbian cinematography that have passed and are still passing through our company making it even bigger and more successful – said the director of “Zastava Film”.
According to him, this production company’s film archive is the jewel of the Serbian cinematography.
- Numbers translated into thousands of kilometres of film, more than 2000 films, and tens of thousands of various videos made by generations of film professionals speak best of the work and importance of this production company. We hope that all of you have received our support at least once and that you have recognized the importance of film, whether it is about training, a historical event, advertising campaign or a military anniversary – said Colonel Ikonić and reminded of numerous awards received by “Zastava Film” and its participation in a number of film festivals all around the world. At the end, he thanked the Ministry of Defence and the Public Relations Department for their support.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to educational and cultural institutions, as well as to film festivals, for successful cooperation and contribution to the affirmation and promotion of military cinematography.
The guests in tonight’s ceremony had the opportunity to see the film “Čuvari sećanja” (Guardians of Memory) dedicated to 75 years of “Zastava Film”, as well as the exhibition “75 Years of Zastava Film” featuring photos of the most important films in the history of this production company. The Mixed Choir of the Defence Ministry’s Artistic Ensemble “Stanislav Binički” and the dance troupe “Una Saga Serbica” performed at the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Defence Minister’s and Chief of the General Staff’s collegia, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture Miodrag Ivanović, friends and former members of “Zastava Film”, and numerous public figures.
