SAF unit earmarked for deployment to peacekeeping operation undergoes capabilities evaluation

Tactical Exercise "Serbian Shield" was conducted this week at Base “South” and the nearby “Borovac” training ground, where the capabilities of an infantry company drawn from the 2nd Army Brigade and earmarked for deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were evaluated.
Company members, who will be deployed to this Middle Eastern country to serve as part of the Spanish contingent, spent several days carrying out tactical missions that they might face in the area of operations. The degree of training and interoperability of the unit were evaluated by the evaluation team of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

They monitored and evaluated the personnel’s knowledge of the procedures to be followed when a base is under attack or when they come across a mine or an explosive device, as well as their execution of tactical actions and procedures when securing checkpoints, convoys and escorts, medical evacuation of the injured, and crowd control.

It was concluded that the infantry company had reached the required standards and was ready for deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. This has also confirmed the quality of training and preparation that the unit has been through over the past few months.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been deploying an infantry company to this operation since 2013. Our contribution also includes a force protection platoon serving as part of the Italian contingent in Lebanon, as well as staff officers and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent.
