Meteorological and Air Navigation Service Day

A ceremony was held today at the Air Force Club in Zemun to mark the Meteorological and Air Navigation Service Day and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first meteorological section in the Serbian Army.
At the ceremony, the service’s greatest accomplishments over the past year were presented, awards were handed over to the most deserving individuals, as well as certificates of appreciation to the institutions with which the service has successfully cooperated in the execution of specific tasks. To mark the occasion, a documentary - “100 Years of Meteorological Service” was shown, and an exhibition was put on in the Air Force Club’s gallery.

The anniversary celebration was an opportunity to present an overview of a century-long history of the service and to highlight the dedication and self-sacrifice of generations of military and civilian personnel, thanks to whom the Meteorological and Air Navigation Service is now a highly professional and modernly equipped part of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The Meteorological and Air Navigation Service in the SAF is responsible for observing, processing and reporting on meteorological and hydrological data, preparing weather forecasts, as well as for collecting, processing and distributing information on hydrographic and navigational conditions that affect the preparations for and the execution of a task.
The Meteorological and Air Navigation Service Day commemorates November 1, 1923, when the meteorological section was founded at the First Air Force Command in Petrovaradin. The section was responsible for organizing, manning and equipping the Air Meteorological Service.
