International UN Military Observers Course

An International UN Military Observers Course has been held at the “South” Base near Bujanovac. It was attended by officers of the Serbian Armed Forces and armed forces from eight African and European countries.
The course was conducted in accordance with UN procedures and standards, aiming to prepare the officers for engagement as military observers on peacekeeping operations under the auspices of this international organization.

During the three-week training, the participants learned the current standard operating procedures and the most important aspects of peacekeeping missions, they received practical training in working at observation posts and performing ground and aerial reconnaissance and had the opportunity to improve their negotiation skills and techniques.

The course was organized by the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, and the lessons were delivered by a team of instructors from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, with the support of the SAF operational commands and instructors from partner training centres from Austria, Greece, Hungary and Germany, as well as visiting lecturers from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Red Cross of Serbia and specialized UN agencies for refugees and children.

The Peacekeeping Operations Centre was certified in 2017 by the United Nations Integrated Training Service to conduct this course. International forces show great interest in this course, which testifies to the quality of training and preparation that the Serbian Armed Forces offer prior to deployment to peacekeeping operations.
