Serbia wins three medals at 1st CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship
Representatives of the Serbian national military team won three medals at the First CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship held today at the circular track across the Vršac Hill.
Sergeant Đuro Borbelj won the gold medal in the men’s race, whereas both men's and women's Serbian military teams took third places in the team competitions. Besides Sergeant Borbelj, the men's team included Sergeant Ivan Dlačić and military employee Milivoje Jovović, and the women's team included two members of our national military team - Second Lieutenant Jelena Sarić and military employee Tijana Kabić.
National military teams of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Slovenia competed in the race. Women raced 6 km, and men 8 km.
Romanian Gheorghe Surlea took second place in the men's individual race, and Miloš Rančić from North Macedonia came in third. In the women's individual race, Jasmina Pitamic from Slovenia took first place, followed by Romania’s Luisi Racina who came in second and the Bulgarian competitor, Marinela Tsekova, who took third place.
In the men’s team race, the Romanian national team took first place and the North Macedonians came in second. In the women’s team race, the Bulgarian national team ended up on the winners’ podium, while the Romanians took second place.
Cups and medals were presented to the winners by the Head of the Serbian Delegation to the CISM, Lieutenant Colonel Asst. Prof. Negovan Ivanković, PhD, who thanked all the competitors for competing fairly in the championship and pointed out that, in this way, the sportsmanship and friendship between the armed forces of the Balkan countries - CISM members, is presented to the whole world in the best possible way. According to him, by organizing sports events like this, Serbia rightly deserves the status of initiator and main implementer of sports development in the region.
The first CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship has been held to mark the 20th anniversary of Serbia's membership in the International Military Sports Council (CISM), as part of the "Balkan Military Games" project.
