Civil-military cooperation project
The 3rd Army Brigade engineer working group has started improving the Toplica riverbed in the municipality of Kuršumlija this week.
The works are being performed as part of the Serbian Armed Forces’ civil-military cooperation project, which uses engineer training to increase the flow capacity of the river bed and provide better protection to the riverside area against water spillage in case of flash floods.
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces worked on improving the bed of the Toplica River last year together with the employees of the Public Utility Company "Toplica". They are now using modern engineering machines to remove thick vegetation, soil deposits and other deposited material from the riverbed.
In addition to flood control efforts, projects like this help improve the skills of engineer units, which play a significant role in carrying out all three missions of the Serbian Armed Forces in both war and peace.
The Serbian Armed Forces have repeatedly engaged their troops and equipment in flood prevention and elimination of the effects of flooding in this part of the country. By conducting engineer training, the Serbian Armed Forces will continue to provide assistance to local self-governments in the future, all with the aim of strengthening mutual trust and improving living conditions for the citizens of Serbia.
