Minister Vučević meets with Chief of U.S. National Guard Bureau
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met today with Chief of the U.S. National Guard Bureau, General Daniel Hokanson.
On that occasion, Minister Vučević said that there is an upward trend in bilateral relations between the two countries, that both sides have expressed their intention to continue and deepen the defence cooperation, and that we deeply appreciate the existing cooperation in the field of joint training, as well as the U.S. donations to the defence system of the Republic of Serbia.
There is cooperation in a variety of areas of mutual interest, he said, emphasizing the newly established area of cooperation involving joint participation in multinational peacekeeping operations.
Minister Vučević said that Serbia continues to pursue a balanced defence policy, constantly working to improve and further develop relations in the field of defence with all countries and international organizations, in accordance with Serbia's long-term strategic commitment to maintaining the neutral status.
During the meeting, the Minister of Defence said that Serbia appreciates the support of the USA to the Belgrade-Priština negotiation process. According to him, Serbia is willing to continue the dialogue and strives to ensure a normal life for the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija by peaceful means.
As for the security of the citizens of Serbian nationality in Kosovo and Metohija, Minister Vučević said that Serbia views KFOR as the sole legitimate armed formation in Kosovo and Metohija, in accordance with UN Resolution 1244. Serbia is absolutely determined to remain a promoter of dialogue and a factor contributing to the stability in the region, said the Minister of Defence.
Chief of the U.S. National Guard Bureau, General Daniel Hokanson , expressed his pleasure at meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and conveyed the expectation that the defence cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened in the period to come.
