Members of Serbian Armed Forces Guard carry sarcophagus with Saint Bishop Nikolaj's remains into Church of Ascension
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Kyr Porfirije, in the presence of State Secretary at Ministry of Defence Nemanja Starović and members of advisory boards of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, welcomed this evening the sarcophagus with the remains of Saint Bishop Nikolaj of Žiča and Ohrid brought into the churchyard of the Church of the Ascension in Belgrade by members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard.
After the sarcophagus has been received, a holiday evening service was held in the Church of the Ascension in Belgrade.
Today, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, together with priests and monks of the Eparchy of Valjevo, escorted the translation of the remains of Saint Bishop Nikolaj of Žiča and Ohrid from Valjevo to Belgrade. From their permanent location - Lelić Monastery near Valjevo, the sarcophagus with remains of Saint Bishop Nikolaj was first transferred to the Church of Protecting Veil of the Mother of God, and then in a procession to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Valjevo.
Tomorrow, the sarcophagus with the remains of Saint Bishop Nikolaj will be carried along the streets of the capital heading the Procession for the Ascension of Our Lord to the Saing Sava Church, where His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Kyr Porfirije will serve a religious service and address the gathered people.
The Serbian Armed Forces answered the call of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Kyr Profirije to escort the remains of Saint Bishop Nikolaj, on the occasion of marking the tenth anniversary of the restoration of the Religious Service in the Serbian Armed Forces, and to participate, as in previous years, in the Ascension Procession to celebrate the Slava of the City of Belgrade.
