Infantry Company undergoes pre-deployment skills evaluation
As part of its final preparations for deployment with UNIFIL, the SAF Infantry Company conducted Tactical Exercise Serbian Shield this week.
The exercise was conducted at the South Base and at the Borovac Training Ground near Bujanovac. It was designed to check the level of training and the ability of this 1st Army Brigade unit to carry out the tasks assigned to it on the mission.During the exercise that lasted for several days, the infantry company completed various tactical assignments, and the Assessment Team from the SAF General Staff assessed the unit’s degree of training and interoperability. In their evaluation of the unit’s skills, they considered actions undertaken when encountering mines and explosive ordnance or in case of a base being under attack, as well as tactics and procedures used when guarding check-points, convoys and escorts, and breaking up protests and controlling mass gatherings.
The results of the evaluation have shown that this SAF contingent has reached the required training standards and is fully prepared for deployment with UNIFIL.
The Serbian Armed Forces started contributing an infantry company to UNIFIL in 2013. This unit works as part of a Spanish battalion in a multinational brigade in Sector East. At the moment, our presence in this peacekeeping operation comprises a force protection platoon along with staff officers and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to the contingent.
