Ministers of Defence of Serbia and Cyprus meet at “Schuman Forum”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, Michalis Giorgallas, at the “Schuman Forum” in Brussels today.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Vučević congratulated his colleague the appointment as the minister of defence of Cyprus, expressing hopes that he would give full contribution to the enhancement of defence cooperation and the overall relations between the two countries.
The minister of defence of Serbia expressed gratitude for the continuous support that Cyprus has been providing to the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, and he stressed that our country supports arriving at an all-encompassing solution to the Cypriot issue, in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
He also added that members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces engaged in the UN multinational operation in Cyprus (UNFICYP) would strive, in the period to come, to justify the confidence placed in them with their professionalism, dedication and efforts, and that they would continue making contribution to the fulfilment of the mandate of the said mission.
Ministers Vučević and Giorgallas stressed that defence cooperation was good, characterised by a qualitative progress, having in mind the level of realised high-level meetings and talks, and the activities conducted in the domain of military-to-military and military economic cooperation.
At the meeting, the interlocutors pointed out that the bilateral relations between the two countries have been traditionally good, unburdened by open issues, and based on mutual respect and cooperation. Also, they expressed hope that the upcoming period would bring, through joint activities and cooperation, the confirmation of already proven friendship between the two peoples and two armed forces.
