Binički rounds off its British tour with gala concert
The MoD’s “Stanislav Binički” Artistic Ensemble and the Countess of Wessex's String Orchestra have held a big concert together at the Royal Military Chapel (Guards’ Chapel). It was our military orchestra’s last concert on their return visit to their colleagues in UK with whom they had held wonderful concerts for the Belgrade audience in 2021.
The music performed at the gala concert by the members of the two orchestras filled the Guard’s Chapel. They performed "Rondeau" by Jean Mouret, "Sway" by Pablo Ruiz, Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing", music from the "Chicago" musical by John Kander, the traditional "Wellerman", "Over the Rainbow" by Harold Arlen, segments of Elgar's "Serenade" and Bach's “Concerto for Two Violins” with soloists Katie Davies and Uroš Kovandžić. The first part of the concert ended with the famous "La Cumparsita" by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez.
In the next part of the concert, the audience enjoyed the Serbian and British orchestras’ combined repertoire. The sounds of "Milunka's Waltz" by Vladimir Tošić, Manjifiko's "Marijana", Bregović's "Tango" and "Serbian Waltz" by Vojkan Borisavljević could be heard at the Guards’ Chapel, and the clarinettists, majors Duško Trnavac and Duško Stamenković, once again enchanted the audience with Acker Bilk’s famous composition "Stranger on the Shore" and "Pastirska Balada" (Shepherd’s Ballad) by Božidar Boki Milošević.
At the end, the orchestras performed a collage of popular animated film scores, and the enthusiastic audience gave the musicians a long round of applause.
