Soldiers undergo sniper training

Soldiers who are doing their voluntary military service are currently undergoing individual specialized training at the Army Training Centre’s training areas and weapons ranges in preparation for sniper roles in the Serbian Armed Forces.

The six-week training course is attended by soldiers of the December 2022 intake who have the best shooting scores and who have proven they are mentally and physically fit to perform demanding sniper roles. The main goal of the training is to prepare them for carrying out specific combat missions and handle the 7.9 mm M76 sniper rifle and 12.7 mm M93 long-range rifle.

The training program includes tactical, weapons and physical training content, and the main focus is on the proper use of camouflage items, movement on the battlefield, choosing and setting up cover for fire action and the execution of fire missions. Soldiers are required to perform a large number of shooting practices in a very short time, as well as physically challenging marches, in order to increase the speed of response, accuracy and effectiveness during fire missions, as well as their overall physical fitness.

At the end of this training stage, soldiers will undergo skills assessment and be transferred to SAF units for three-month collective training to further upgrade their knowledge and skills and become fully trained for sniper roles.
