74th anniversary of “Zastava Film” Military Film Centre marked
The "Zastava Film" Military Film Centre, an organizational unit of the Public Relations Department, Ministry of Defence, marked its 74th work anniversary today.
Head of the Public Relations Department, Colonel Mihailo Zogović, PhD, Asst. Prof. congratulated the employees of the Film Centre on the anniversary and wished them a lot of success in their future endeavours. He expressed hope that they would continue to preserve Serbian military cinematography, make footage of the most important activities undertaken by the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and make creative motion pictures.
- We are obliged to do so not only by the long tradition of Serbian military cinematography, which you preserve and keep alive even today, but also by the efforts of generations of people who have worked and created under this roof, as evidenced by millions of kilometres of film tape and more than 150 prestigious awards won at national and international festivals - said Colonel Zogović.
The Public Relations Department, he said, would continue to assist and support "Zastava Film” and all initiatives launched by that institution.
Addressing the audience, the director of the "Zastava Film" MFC, Colonel Goran Ikonić, said that “Zastava Film” was the institution in charge of the film production in the Ministry of Defence and the oldest film production company in the region. According to him, as of this year, "Zastava Film" will celebrate both its anniversary and its Patron Saint’s Day on November 14.
- This year, the "Zastava Film" Military Film Centre has successfully completed all its assignments, such as filming the activities undertaken by the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the production of promotional videos, filming military ceremonies and training conducted in the defence system. We have also done several important projects related to military traditions that have earned us a number of awards at international film festivals - said Colonel Ikonić, adding that the staff of that institution would continue to film all the important moments in the history of our military and our people and thus give future generations sufficient reason to preserve our national identity.
He also announced that next year, with the support of the Public Relations Department, efforts would be made to show the importance of educational films as particularly effective means of soldier training, which this military film centre is famous for.
On this occasion, “Zastava Film” thanked and expressed appreciation to the institutions and individuals who contributed to its work over the past year.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 250th Missile Brigade, Brigadier General Tiosav Janković, Commandant of the Military Academy, Colonel Srđan Blagojević, PhD, representatives of organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and cultural institutions.
"Zastava Film" celebrates its anniversary in memory of November 14, 1948, when the Yugoslav Army Film Production Department was formed in Belgrade. "Zastava Film" got its current name in 1962, and from its first films until today, this film production company has been a faithful chronicler of military life events.
