Meeting between Minister Stefanović and Turkish National Defence Minister Akar
Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met with the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, who is paying an official visit to Serbia as part of a delegation led by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the beginning of the bilateral meeting, ministers Stefanović and Akar agreed that open and friendly relations between presidents Aleksandar Vučić and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan were a powerful incentive to a continued development of overall cooperation between the two countries and that defence cooperation was also in an upward trend.
According to Minister Stefanović, cooperation has been good so far, but there is still room for improvement, particularly in the area of joint training, which is a great opportunity for an exchange of knowledge and experience and helps enhance operational capabilities of our armed forces, but also in the spheres of military industry and military education.
Minister Akar thanked Minister Stefanović on the latter’s visit to Ankara last year and said that talks like this were of great importance for setting out guidelines for and ensuring future cooperation. He expressed Turkey’s commitment to promoting military to military and military educational cooperation, as well as cooperation in the sphere of military industry and all other areas of mutual interest.
The two ministers also discussed the current regional and global security situation.
