Soldier training in River Flotilla

Soldiers who have been performing their military service in River Flotilla units since June this year are undergoing specialist training on the Danube near Belgrade.
After successfully completing individual basic training at the Training Command centres, soldiers aboard inland watercraft are being trained as boatmen.

During this period, the emphasis is on practical training conducted on vessels docked at the anchorage, where soldiers train to carry out tasks at their battle stations, practicing for future navigation and execution of firings. The training programme includes sailing into and out of a harbour, the proper usage of deck devices, ship's boats and combat survivability assets.

Soldiers serving in river units spend three quarters of their military service aboard River Flotilla’s vessels in order to adapt to specific circumstances aboard a ship and complete complex training.
With the support of the officer commanding, instructors and all crew members, the soldiers are quickly getting used to living and working aboard a ship, which is evidenced by the motivation and commitment they demonstrate during the training, as well as the desire expressed by many of them to become professional members of SAF river units after completing their military service.
