Serbian Armed Forces install temporary bridge on top of Hisar Hill
Members of the Army Engineer Battalion have installed a bridge over an archaeological excavation site at the top of the Hisar Hill in Prokuplje, thus creating conditions for the restoration of this site.
It is a heavy, 20-meter-long mechanized bridge with a load-carrying capacity of 40 tonnes that will be used by heavy construction machinery engaged in asphalting roads leading to this hill, where the remains of a medieval fortress are located.
Three years ago, the local self-government started the restoration of archaeological and historical monuments at the top of the Hisar Hill with the support of competent ministries, and the assistance provided by the Serbian Armed Forces was crucial for the continuation of the works since there are valuable archaeological excavation sites along the route that needed to be bridged.
This activity undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces to provide support to the local self-government, was also an excellent opportunity for engineers to take additional practice in installing heavy mechanized bridges, designed to bridge water and other obstacles up to 40 meters wide.
