Minister Stefanović lays wreath at Serbian military cemetery in Thiais
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has laid a wreath at the Serbian military cemetery in Thiais near Paris and paid tribute to Serbian soldiers killed in the First World War.
- It is our duty to preserve the memory of Serbian victims of the First World War. A total of 747 Serbian soldiers, who had fought heroically on the front and who had been taken by their wounded French comrades to hospitals in an effort to heal their wounds, were buried in the cemetery in Thiais. They died far from their homeland, but this cemetery is proof that Serbian soldiers are held in great respect, and that the alliance between the Serbian and French nations was very strong in the First World War - said Minister Stefanović, adding that shared history obliges us to work in peace towards the preservation and strengthening of our friendly relations.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to France, H.E. Ms Nataša Marić, Air Force and Air Defence Commander Lieutenant General Duško Žarković, Director of the Military Intelligence Agency Major General Zoran Stojković, Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Colonel Nebojša Svjetlica and Serbian Defence Attaché in Paris Colonel Dejan Milosavljević attended the wreath-laying ceremony in Thiais.
