Minister Stefanović meets with French Senators



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, who is paying an official visit to the French Republic, has met today with a delegation of Senators, led by Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces.
The Minister was welcomed to the French Senate by Cambon, Marta de Cidrac, President of the France-Western Balkans Friendship Group, and Hubert de Canson, diplomatic advisor to the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher.

At the meeting, Stefanović pointed out that bilateral defence cooperation between Serbia and France was good and the interlocutors agreed that there was a mutual commitment to enhancing it further.
  Minister Stefanović expressed appreciation for France’s support for Serbia’s European integration. He emphasized that full membership was our country’s foreign policy priority and that the support of a strong country such as France was important to us along the way.
 
On this occasion, he also noted that one of Serbia’s priorities was regional stability, and that Serbia was determined to continue to be the key factor to stability in our region. He underlined that the Open Balkan initiative launched by President Aleksandar Vučić gave a completely new quality to cooperation in our region aimed at stronger economic development and the creation of better living conditions for all citizens, which, according to him, was completely complementary to the European integration process.
Chairman of the Committee at the French Senate Cambon emphasized the importance of Minister Stefanović’s visit to the International Defence and Security Exhibiton "Eurosatory 2022" in Paris.

He emphasized the importance of the shared history of the Serbian and French nations and said that it was necessary to further develop cooperation on that basis.
Cambon also assessed that Serbia's commitment to European integration was important for France and he expressed belief that our country was important for the stability in the region.

The interlocutors also discussed the current situation in Eastern Europe.
 
The Ambassador of Serbia to France, Nataša Marić also attended the meeting.
