Meeting between Minister Stefanović and Commander EUFOR for Operation ALTHEA
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has met today in Belgrade with the Operational Commander for the EU Operation ALTHEA, Lieutenant General Brice Houdet, to discuss the current political and security situation in the region.
Minister Stefanović has said that the Republic of Serbia aims to maintain a constructive and meaningful dialogue, which he considers the principal mechanism for overcoming problems. Serbia remains strongly committed to supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all internationally recognized states and expects the same from the international community, the Minister said.
According to him, Serbia has been building bridges of cooperation with all neighbouring countries in a dedicated and visible manner, thus contributing to the development of the region. Also, it is a significant factor in preserving peace and stability and it fully intends to remain so. The Minister has also said that we welcome the efforts of the international community to preserve peace and stability.
Lieutenant General Houdet has informed Minister Stefanović about the plans to strengthen the European Union Force in Operation ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina in light of the international security situation, adding that EU members have doubled their presence in the field as a precautionary measure. According to him, the European Union wants to adapt the operation to the current changes in the international context and show a strong commitment to preserving peace and stability in the region.
The meeting between Minister Stefanović and General Houdet has been an opportunity to discuss Serbia’s contribution to the Common Security and Defence Policy, EU missions and operations.
