General Staff of Serbian Armed Forces Celebrates its Patron Saint Day



Today, the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces celebrated Holy Martyr George’s Day, its Slava or the Patron Saint Day. The festivity took place in the barracks “Banjica 2” in Belgrade.
 
The host of Slava, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović welcomed the guests and offered today’s holiday greetings to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces and citizens who celebrate the St. George’s Day. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was served by His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia kyr Porfirije and Bishop of Niš and Military Bishop Arsenije, with joint service of military priests. The Liturgy, consecration of gifts and breaking of bread, was attended by members of the Board of the Chief of General Staff, and numerous officers, non-commissioned officers and civilians serving or being employed in the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.
  
After that General Milan Mojsilović hosted a reception for Patriarch Porfirije, with whom he talked about the hitherto cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and the Serbian Orthodox Church, the results of the work of military priests and the plans for further development of the Chaplain Service in the Serbian Armed Forces. The interlocutors estimated that the cooperation between the two institutions is at an exceptionally high level and that it fully is in the function of strengthening spiritual and moral values and patriotism of members of our armed forces.
 
The General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces has celebrated its Slava, St. George’s Day, since 2018, thus continuing the tradition of observing Slava in the Serbian military initiated in 1888.
