New apartments for 152 members of Serbian Armed Forces in Niš
Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabić and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, presented 152 active duty and retired members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces with the keys to new apartments in Niš today.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabić thanked the members of the defence system and their families for everything they do, and for loving and protecting our country.
- We live in difficult and challenging times. You can see the situation in Europe and the world today, one no longer knows what today or tomorrow may bring, and in circumstances like these, it turns out that the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić made a right, smart and visionary decision when he was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia - to invest in our defence, in the Serbian Armed Forces, and our security services in general - said the Prime Minister.
She announced that, at the end of June, another 190 apartments built as part of the state housing project for security services, which had been launched by Aleksandar Vučić in 2017, would be handed over to new owners, and that phase 1B would start soon, with an additional 1,188 apartments for members of the security services.
According to Minister Stefanović, today is a big day for everyone in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, because 152 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and their families are getting a home here.
- They will get a roof over their heads and move into a more secure future. Most of the apartments that these great people are moving into are two and a half and three bedroom apartments. We have also heard from the mayor that kindergartens will be built here and a completely new, urban settlement - said the Minister.
He wished new apartment owners all the best and expressed hope that they will spend many happy moments in their new homes.
- I know what it means to move into your own apartment, I know how happy one is at that moment, how happy the family is. I know that your hearts are filled with happiness. Words cannot describe how much these people deserve the apartments they are moving into now. A soldier's job is a tough one. This profession is chosen by special, brave, noble and modest people. These people usually ask what else they can do for their country, not what their country can do for them. And that is why I am particularly pleased and happy that today Serbia can say thank you to them, but not only in words but in a serious manner, by solving this serious life problem for them - said Stefanović.
Thanks to the reforms and President Vučić’s initiative, he said, more than 1,400 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence have been provided with permanent housing over the past year, through various models that were available.
- Today, our active duty members and military retirees, but also the families of our deceased colleagues are together here, on their own property, in their own homes. These are the people who fight for this country, who have dedicated their careers and their whole lives to it - said the Minister.
According to Stefanović, it is important that we show them how much we appreciate that.
- I would like to thank the Prime Minister for all the activities undertaken over the last few years in collaboration with the City of Niš, thanks to which this project has been completed. In the coming period, besides these buildings, new roads and infrastructure will be built, that will make life here even more beautiful - said Minister Stefanović.
According to him, we can proudly say that today, our soldiers are better equipped and have a better standard of living.
- Of course, we will strive to make the situation even better in the coming period. Building strong armed forces is not easy at all, but I am glad that the citizens of Serbia can see today that our armed forces are the most solid foundation for the defence of our country and we continue our fight to make them stronger - said Stefanović.
Besides Prime Minister Brnabić and Minister Stefanović, the ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Niš Dragana Sotirovski, the President of the Niš City Assembly Boban Džunić, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Katarina Tomašević, Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, Head of Defence Minister's Office Colonel Stevan Kotarlić, Head of the Infrastructure Department Colonel Slobodan Starčević, and family members of active duty and retired members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces who got new apartments today.
