Dog handlers and military working dogs undergo training

Dog handlers and military working dogs are undergoing training lasting for several weeks at the Dog Training Centre in the "Knjaz Mihailo" barracks in Niš.
The goal is to train professional members of the Serbian Armed Forces as dog handlers and to provide periodic retraining for guard dogs. Upon the completion of the training, dogs and handlers will be assigned to Serbian Armed Forces units and tasked with guarding military facilities and property.

In accordance with the general training program, handlers are doing practical activities with working dogs, doing obstacle courses and training dogs for guarding buildings during the day and night, and the focus is on disciplinary exercises in order to develop mutual trust and enable handlers to assume complete control of the dogs and handle them efficiently during the execution of tasks.

This type of training is carried out in the Dog Training Centre throughout the year, and the successful training improves the handlers and working dogs’ efficiency in protecting and guarding the Serbian Armed Forces’ facilities and movable assets, since trained guard dogs can detect a threat on time, conceal their presence until the moment when the intervention is necessary and perform the task using minimum force.
