Members of Serbian Armed Forces deploying to EUTM Somalia given a send-off

A new Serbian contingent deploying to the European Union Training Mission in Somalia was given a send-off today at the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.  Our contingent, which will spend six months in the area of operations, includes a staff officer serving as the mission’s chief of medical corps and a medical team that will be responsible for providing primary health care to members of international forces stationed at Mogadishu airport.

Today's ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, Head of the Operations Department (J-3, Serbian Armed Forces General Staff), and H.E. Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia.  The Serbian Armed Forces have participated in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia since 2012, and so far 95 Serbian doctors and nurses have served in this mission, working in the command and the medical team.

By participating in EU military operations, carried out within the framework of the common security and defence policy, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to Serbia’s European integration process and the preservation of peace in the world.
