Minister Stefanović meets with representatives of Sports Association of Serbia
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met today with the President of the Sports Association of Serbia Davor Štefanek, with whom he discussed the harmonization of further steps in cooperation between the Ministry and the Association, in order to create better conditions for military athletes.
Minister Stefanović pointed out that the cooperation with the Association has been successful so far, from a joint appearance at the "Sports Fair" to creating conditions for participation in international military competitions to reinforcing military competition teams with top athletes.
„We want our military athletes to have the best possible conditions and full support for their training, preparations and participation in competitions," said Minister Stefanović.
Stefanović and Štefanek agreed that in the coming period, it will be necessary to work together on building infrastructural capacities for the development of sports disciplines characteristic of the military, such as military pentathlon training grounds, etc.
The meeting discussed the modalities of engaging top athletes through the Ministry of Defence Sports Unit, which creates the conditions for them to represent the Serbian Armed Forces at major international competitions, but also to promote military profession among young people. The interlocutors also agreed that top sports need such support, and that there is certainly a considerable mutual benefit, which has been confirmed through the cooperation so far.
It was also agreed at the meeting that sports in the armed forces should be adequately recognized and have its place in the Strategy for the Development of Sports in Serbia, which will be a key document in that area in the next decade.
The meeting was attended by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Branko Živanović, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Katarina Tomašević and Deputy Head of the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to CISM Colonel Milivoje Pajović, PhD, and a member of the Delegation, Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Todorov, PhD. In addition to President Štefanek, the delegation representing the Sports Association included Secretary General Goran Marinković and legal advisor Prof. Dr. Nenad Đurđević.
