Meeting between Minister Stefanović and United States Congress delegation



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met today with the delegation representing the United States House of Representatives, led by Congressmen Eric Swalwell and Sean Maloney.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Stefanović welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation of the opportunity to discuss issues of strategic importance for the defence of the two countries.

Stefanović emphasized that bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America were in an upward trend, and that their most promising segment was defence cooperation. As he said, our country highly values ​​the cooperation so far in joint military exercises and training, as well as U.S. donations for Serbia’s defence system.
  Minister Stefanović informed the visiting delegation that the Republic of Serbia continues to pursue a balanced defence policy and constantly strives towards the improvement and further development of relations in the field of defence with all countries and international organizations, in line with Serbia’s long-term strategic commitment to maintain the status of a neutral state.

Representatives of the United States Congress thanked Minister Stefanović for the warm welcome and expressed hope that the Republic of Serbia and the United States would raise defence cooperation to a higher level in the coming period, but also in all other areas of common interest.

They expressed support for Serbia's strong economic progress and stressed that our country has a positive impact on global security, primarily through participation in multinational UN and EU operations.

The Ambassador of the United States of America, Anthony Godfrey, and the Director of the Military Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General Zoran Stojković, also attended today's meeting in the Old General Staff’s Small War Hall.
