President Vučić meets with UK Secretary of State for Defence
The President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić received the UK Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace. On this occasion, President Vučić expressed hope that, by joint efforts, Serbian-British relations would be raised to the level of true partnership that we had had as allies in both world wars.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, and Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković.
President Vučić pointed out that Serbia was interested in strengthening ties with the United Kingdom in all areas, including defence. In this regard, the importance of joint participation of members of the Serbian and British armed forces in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus was emphasized. President Vučić also informed Defence Secretary Wallace about the favourable economic trends in Serbia, expressing hope that British investors would become more interested in investing in our country.
President Vučić and Defence Secretary Wallace also discussed global issues and the regional situation.
Minister Wallace pointed out that the Western Balkans was very important for the United Kingdom, and that Serbia was extremely important for peace and stability in the region.
- "Serbia will always be a pillar of peace and stability in the Balkans," President Vučić said.
