Serbian contingent to serve with UN mission in Cyprus sent off

A send-off ceremony was held at the “Banjica“ barracks in Belgrade for the Serbian military police squad deploying to the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
It is the first Serbian unit deployed to Cyprus after a three-year break. Earlier, from 2011 to 2018, a Serbian infantry platoon served in this mission.

The military police squad will be serving as part of the British contingent in this mission, which will be the first joint participation of the Serbian and British armed forces after the Second World War.

The Head of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Mirjana Milenković, handed over the flag of the Republic of Serbia to the squad leader, Sergeant First Class Viktor Urošević, telling him that they should perform all assigned tasks conscientiously and responsibly, present members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the best light and build good relations with all participants in the mission.
The ceremony was also attended by the UK Ambassador to Serbia Sian MacLeod and the MoD and SAF representatives.

The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus was set up by a UN Security Council Resolution in 1964, and the Serbian Armed Forces began participating in the mission on 21 October 2010.
