Working Group for drafting the Law on the Armed Forces began its work
Minister Vulin: A historical opportunity, a law on ourselves, by ourselves
- It is for the first time that we have a historic opportunity to write such an important law as the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces from scratch, in the way that suits us, thanks to the fact that we adopted the National Security Strategy and the Defence Strategy, as well as the decision on the military neutrality of the state of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces – Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said at the opening of the first meeting of the Working Group for drafting the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces.
- We rely on some laws that were passed back in time of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, even later, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and we are constantly amid some amendments, and this is an opportunity to make a law on ourselves, and by ourselves – Minister Vulin said adding that, in accordance with the decision on military neutrality, we do not have to adapt ourselves to anyone.
The Minister of Defence emphasised that we do not have to make a law that any alliance, any other army or any other state will applaud.
- We are making the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces that is to serve for defence of our country and our people and for nothing else. Thanks to passing the political decision on military neutrality made by our Commander-in-Chief and President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and supported by the National Assembly, it is for the first time that we can pass a law that will regulate exclusively the Serbian Armed Forces as it suits the Serbian Armed Forces, which is a historic opportunity that the Serbian Armed Forces will take – Minister Vulin concluded and he also gave the members of the Working Group guidelines for their work.
Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Zoran Lazić, who chairs the Working Group, emphasised that the body is made up of the best lawyers in the defence system believing that they will successfully respond to the task entrusted to them.
The agenda of today's meeting is to discuss the work plan of the Working Group and all the elements and technical details necessary for the efficient work of that body.
