Wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of Veterans Day
On the occasion of the Veterans Day, delegations from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have laid wreaths at the New Cemetery and at the Monument to the National Hero Milan Tepić in Belgrade with military honours, today.
The central commemoration ceremony at the New Cemetery was held near the Monument to the Liberators of Belgrade in World War II, and members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by Brigadier General Savo Iriškić, Chief of Human Resources Department of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, laid wreaths at the Memorial Ossuary to soldiers killed in the Serbo-Bulgarian War, and at the Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade in the World War I.
The delegation that laid a wreath at the Monument to the National Hero Milan Tepić in memory of the perished Serbian soldiers was led by Colonel Duško Šljivančanin, Head of the Department for Tradition, Standard and Veterans and besides members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, tradition and veteran associations also paid tribute to the fallen Serbian soldiers.
The Veterans Day is celebrated on 4th December, to commemorate the day when, in 1912, a ceasefire in the First Balkan War was signed. when about 400,000 soldiers of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia received the title of an old warrior, or a veteran. This holiday is marked in all the commands, units and institutions of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in honour and memory of the soldiers who fell for the freedom of their fatherland.
