Representatives of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija at the Exhibition “Defence 78”

Today, representatives of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija toured the exhibition of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces “Defence 78” dedicated to commemorating 20th anniversary of NATO aggression.

Today’s visit was attended by state secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković and Deputy Head of Department for Tradition, Standards and Veterans of the Ministry of Defence Colonel Duško Šljivančanin.

Director of the Office Marko Đurić called upon all the citizens of Serbia to visit the exhibition in the Museum of the city of Belgrade.

- This is a modern museum exhibition which leaves no one indifferent. The exhibition speaks about the hardship and suffering, epic and pain of Serbian people and our state exposed to brutal aggression which was against international law and all decisions of the United Nations, whose victims were primarily common citizens. The exhibition speaks about the heroism of the fight for freedom, for independence of Serbia, about the people who gave their lives, about the generation which built free and independent Serbia with their bodies and lives, and who gave everything up so that Serbia would live today, so that we would be an independent and free country which makes its own decisions - Đurić said.

As he said the truth about what had happened 20 years before “is our obligation, and our duty is to cherish the memory of it”.

- We should be wiser than some who previously swept under the carpet the truth about the aggression against our country. Upon the initiative of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić, we have, in Serbia, finally started observing the memory of the heroes of defence of Serbia in a dignified and appropriate manner. This represents the best way to strengthen the resolve of Serbia to continue defending its freedom and independence in the future, because by honouring our heroes, the people who have built their lives in the freedom and independence of this country, we guarantee the survival and safe future of our state. That is why we will continue incessant cherishing of the memory and we will continue naming the NATO aggression against our country by its true name – the director of the Office stressed.

The interactive and multimedia exhibition set up in the Museum of the city of Belgrade, by the author Dušan Jovović, has been realised with the support of the Military Museum and the Museum of Aviation, with exceptional contribution of units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The exhibition “Defence 78” is divided in eight segments and it clearly testifies on the events in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which preceded the NATO aggression and the events during the aggression. The exhibits include video and printed material which are presented to the public for the first time.
