State Secretary Bojan Jocić, MA opened today the Third Regional Military Medical Conference in the Houses of the Guards at Topčider and emphasized that its importance is best illustrated by the number of participants, not only from the countries of the region, but also guests from Algeria, Turkey, Greece, Moldova and Azerbaijan, as well as Norway and the United States that helped organize the Conference.

- Enhancing regional cooperation in the field of military medicine is one of the priorities, as it enables the best quality assistance to all who need it. We had a chance to see for ourselves how important support of friends is when dealing with emergencies – State Secretary Jocić said.

According to the Chief of the Military Health Directorate, Brigadier General Dr Uglješa Jovičić, for the promotion of the profession and science, exchange of knowledge at all levels of health care is of utmost importance. Therefore, continuous regional cooperation in the field of military health is one of the most important tasks in order to maintain a high level of competence and expertise.

- In the years behind us, we have had the opportunity to co-operate on a number of common medical engagements, and I particularly emphasize international military exercises like the recently held “Vigorous Warrior 2019”. It is precisely about defining further improvement of performance for all of these important multinational medical units that we will talk about over the next two days – said General Jovičić.

Major General John Gerhard Reichlett (Norway), Colonel Matthew Peterson (USA) and Lieutenant Colonel Dr Žarko Mićović addressed the participants.
Special guest at this year’s conference was the Special Envoy of the United Kingdom, Lord Tariq Ahmet.

The Conference, which will last until 20 June, will include presentations and panel discussions on military-medical cooperation, development of military medicine and smart defense.
