Start of Tests on the New Terrain Vehicle “Zastava NTV”
The Military Technical Institute in collaboration with economic subject “Zastava TERVO” from Kragujevac participated designing a new terrain vehicle “Zastava NTV” which was produced in Kragujevac factory in two variants, as a van with extended cabin for transport of 8+1 persons and a terrain vehicle with a short cabin for transport of weapons and material weighing up to 1.4 tons. Both variants are designed to tow weapons and auxiliary assets weighing up to 1.7 tons.
The new terrain vehicle “Zastava NTV” represents a multipurpose functional vehicle of 7.5 tons’ maximal load (2.5 tons live weight), which apart from engine, transmission and autonomous suspension was fully produced in the factory “Zastava TERVO”.
Modern Cummins turbodiesel engine was built in moto-transmission segment, and Allison automatic transmission, and two-stage drive distributor with hydrodynamic torque converter. System of autonomous vehicle suspension provides optimal towing-dynamic characteristics on the move in the field, and increased comfort while moving on the modern road-ways. Dimensions and mass of the vehicle are such that they enable installation of additional cargo in the vehicle in terms of ballistic protection, turrets with weapons, and various optoelectronic devices and instruments.
Testing in laboratories, training ground and terrain of the vehicle “Zastava NTV”, which is going to undergo very rigorous and demanding tests, should prove that its adopted vehicle concept and its towing and dynamic characteristics fully conform to assigned requests. During tests in climatic chamber of the Technical Testing Centre and test which envisages crossing tens of thousands kilometres on very demanding terrains of Deliblatska Peščara, Zlatibor and Fruška Gora, all functional characteristics of the vehicle are to be tested and checked as well as their conformity to the elements of initial tactical and technical requirements.
