Minister Vulin: We will guard our free sky on our own

- The sky above Serbia is free and we will guard our skies on our own, Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said at the ceremony of the Aviation Day, organized at the Batajnica airport.

- Thanks to great understanding of the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and great investment that Serbia makes when it comes to our aviation, we can say that we can equate ourselves in a technological sense with other, far more prosperous and richer armies. We will not, like some other countries, rent the protection of our heaven, we will not pay anyone to safeguard our skies. The Serbian Armed Forces, our air force and aviation are already capable of protecting our heaven now and we do not seek help from anyone else, Minister Vulin pointed out.

He added that modernisation will continue, from the acquisition of new MiGs through new helicopters, to improving the material position of aviation members.

- Their duties are specific, their sacrifices are such that it must be recognised and that it must be rewarded in a special way, which we are already working on with the Air Force and Air Defence Command, and we will very quickly come out before our members with concrete measures. The sky above Serbia is free, after the NATO aggression we have never been in a better situation and our sky will be guarded by Serbian aviation, Minister of Defence said.

According to the AF&AD Commander Brigadier General Duško Zarković, today is a great holiday for all airmen.

- We are looking into the future with the hope that it will be much better, and this is indicated exactly by the equipping of the AF&AD, with both planes and helicopters. Parallel to equipping, we are sending our people to training abroad as well, and we expect that in the next two to three years the operational capabilities of the AF&AD will be significantly raised to a higher level and contribute to the defence of our country, General Žarković said.

After the ceremony, Minister Vulin and General Žarković laid wreaths at the monument to the Aviation Heroes at Batajnica Airport.

At today's celebration of the Aviation Day, flying badges, awards and compliments were presented, and the parade of units was performed.
