Observing the Day of Geodetic Service and the Military Geographical Institute



Today, in the Military Geographical Institute the Day of that institution and the Day of Geodetic Service were observed.
 
The celebration was attended by representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, scientific and educational institutions with which the Military Geographical Institute has a developed scientific and technical cooperation, and by active and retired members of the Geodetic Service.
 
Greeting the present, Head of the Military Geographical Institute Colonel PhD Zoran Srdić pointed out that on that day they celebrated 142 years from the establishment of the Geodetic Service and of the Military Geographical Institute as well as 150th anniversary of the birth of academician General Stevan Bošković who had headed the Geodetic Service and Military Geographical Institute from 1900 to 1937.

- In the last year, many significant results were accomplished in the field of aerophotogrametric recording and the engagement of the Institute in a national project IPA2014 “Elimination of the effects of the floods in the Republic of Serbia” in the framework of which we have received rather valuable equipment. Apart from that, numerous results were achieved in the field of scientific and research work, the most important being the project of digitalisation of the archives of geodetic, cartographic and photogrammetric documentation of the Institute _ Colonel Srdić stressed.
 
Speaking about the plans for this year, Head of the Institute underlined that one of the focal tasks would be participation in the implementation of the project of national importance such as Serbian Encyclopaedia and National Geographic Atlas of Serbia which are being conducted under the patronage of the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts and Matica of Serbia.
 
The end of the celebration was reserved for the presentation of a film “Military Geographical Institute over Three Centuries” produced by the Military Film Centre “Zastava film”.
