Cobras – the Oldest Counter Terrorist Unit
Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin talked with representatives of the Association of Veterans of Counter Terrorist Unit, of the Military Police special purpose battalion “Cobras” and with their active members.
The occasion for the talks was a great jubilee that this unit is going to mark on 14th April 2018 – the 40th anniversary of its existence.
Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin said that the unit took a special place in security system and he commended the members of “Cobras” on their self-sacrificing execution of extremely difficult and risky job.
- As the oldest counter terrorist unit in the area of former Yugoslavia, you have demonstrated by your work that you are capable of professionally and exceptionally well execute the most complex security tasks, primarily the security protection of the highest military and state leadership – Minister Vulin emphasised.
The President of the Association of “Cobras” Veterans, Trifun Koprivica, briefly familiarised the minister of defence with the history of the unit and Association and presented an initiative to adequately mark the 40th anniversary of the unit, and to determine a Day of the Cobras Unit, following the example of other counter terrorist units.
Commander of the Military Police special purpose battalion “Cobras”, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Ušlјebrka emphasised the importance of maintaining contacts with the Association of Veterans, because of cherishing the tradition and boosting morale in the unit, and for sharing invaluable experiences of the older colleagues.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Vulin said that the jubilee of the “Cobras” unit would be marked in a suitable manner and that the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces would continue enhancing the living and working conditions and equipping our most elite forces.
